The Day-Date launched in 1956 as the first wristwatch to simultaneously display both the day of the week and the date in full. It has never been made in steel. Every Day-Date that has left Geneva has been 18ct gold, platinum or the brand's own precious alloys, and that exclusivity remains unchanged in the 128238. The 36mm case is 18ct yellow gold throughout, with a fluted bezel cast in the same alloy and a screw-down Twinlock crown sealing the case to 100 metres.
The green ombré dial connects this configuration to a design Rolex first introduced in the 1980s and relaunched in 2019. The gradient transitions from a deep, saturated green at the centre to absolute black at the edge, the concentric black lacquer applied by a specialist whose task is to ensure the transition is imperceptible. Diamonds in 18ct gold settings mark most of the hour positions, with baguette-cut diamonds sitting at 6 and 9 o'clock, their rectangular faces offering a deliberate contrast to the round brilliants surrounding them. The day of the week appears in a window at 12 o'clock; the date sits under a Cyclops lens at three o'clock. Calibre 3255 drives the watch, Rolex's most advanced current movement and the architecture that underpins the Day-Date range. Its Chronergy escapement delivers 15% greater efficiency than its predecessor; the Parachrom hairspring resists magnetic disturbance; Paraflex shock absorbers handle impact. Power reserve holds to 70 hours, with Superlative Chronometer certification confirming -2/+2 seconds a day after casing.
The President bracelet in 18ct yellow gold has been exclusive to the Day-Date since 1956. Its semi-circular three-piece links close with a concealed folding Crownclasp, the clasp hidden within the bracelet's profile so that nothing interrupts the gold from case to wrist.
This Day-Date 36, Reference 128238, has no visible scratches and is in excellent condition.
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos. Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card. A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements. We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
