Cartier arrived at Watches and Wonders 2026 with one of the most expansive presentations of the fair, introducing around 70 new references across the Santos, Tank, Panthère, Privé, and high watchmaking collections. Some revisited familiar Cartier designs through sharper proportions and restrained detailing, while others leaned further into the maison’s historic strengths in jewellery watchmaking and shaped horology.

Santos-Dumont 

Stone dials continue to gain traction across the industry, although Cartier approached the category with more restraint than most. The new Santos-Dumont Large Model uses an obsidian dial sourced from Mexico, giving the surface a subtle texture and depth under changing light. Unlike brighter ornamental stones, the obsidian keeps the overall character understated and monochromatic, while delicate silver-toned variations across the dial add contrast and dimensionality to the overall execution.

The watch is paired with a finely constructed yellow-gold mesh or  bracelet made up of 394 individual links. Cartier references jewellery commissions from the 1920s as inspiration, although the bracelet feels thoroughly modern on the wrist due to its flexibility and slim construction. The 43.5mm case dimensions sound large on paper, although the thin 7.3mm profile and curved case architecture keep the watch balanced during wear. Inside is the manually wound Calibre 430 MC, a movement Cartier has used extensively across thin dress-oriented references. The focus here is clearly on case and dial execution, which is exactly where the Santos-Dumont platform performs best.

Roadster Revival

The return of the Roadster was one of the more unexpected announcements from Cartier 2026 releases. The collection has been absent for more than a decade, although interest in early-2000s sports watches has steadily increased across both the primary and secondary markets. Cartier reintroduces the Roadster in seven references across two sizes, with the larger version measuring 47mm x 38mm x 10.06mm thick. Water resistance is rated to 100 meters, and the watches are powered by the automatic calibre 1847 MC for larger sizes while the medium is equipped with 1899MC.

The most successful update is the strap system. Cartier’s QuickSwitch mechanism allows the Roadster to shift easily between bracelet, leather strap, and a surprisingly refined rubber option in navy blue. The rubber strap changes the personality of the watch entirely and makes the tonneau case feel far more contemporary than many expected from a Roadster revival. Importantly, Cartier resisted the temptation to redesign the case aggressively. The enlarged date magnifier, flowing case profile, and automotive-inspired dial layout remain intact, which is exactly what longtime Roadster enthusiasts wanted to see.

Santos de Cartier Medium “Ghost”

Among Cartier’s quieter releases this year, the Santos “Ghost” stands out as one of the strongest everyday watches in the catalogue. The watch takes direct inspiration from the grey-dial Santos Carrée references of the 1980s, particularly ref. 2960 models that collectors later nicknamed “Ghost” dials due to their low-contrast printing.The new version uses a medium-sized steel case measuring 41.9mm by 35.1mm with a thickness of 8.83mm.

Tank Normale With Breguet Hands

Cartier continues expanding the Privé collection with a new Tank Normale that revisits some of the earliest design traits associated with the model. Compared to the Tank Louis Cartier, the Normale has a squarer and more architectural profile that stays close to Louis Cartier’s original 1917 proportions. This new yellow-gold edition introduces a warm-toned dial alongside black Roman numerals and blued Breguet hands, details more commonly associated with early 20th-century watchmaking. The heavily bevelled sapphire crystal also changes the feel of the watch considerably, giving it stronger vintage character on the wrist and softening the otherwise rigid geometry of the case.

Tortue Monopoussoir

The standout technical release from Cartier’s 2026 lineup is easily the Tortue Monopoussoir. Produced in limited numbers across platinum and yellow gold, the watch revives one of Cartier’s most historically important case shapes while integrating a movement designed specifically around the Tortue architecture. The case measures 43.7mm by 34.8mm and houses the manually wound Calibre 1928 MC, a column-wheel monopusher chronograph movement shaped to follow the curved profile of the case. Through the sapphire caseback, the movement finishing includes Geneva stripes, polished bevels, and a bridge layout that fills the case exceptionally well.
